LEAPER
In Leaper you must move Leaper the frog from the bottom
of the screen to one of the openings at the top. You must
avoid the vehicles driving back and forth on the road and
then hop on the logs and turtles to get across the river.
Start the game by typing VLEAPER and pressing the enter
key. The opening screen will appear. Once you've read the
information displayed, press any key to bring up the title
screen.
When at the title screen:
Enter - Starts the game.
C - Allows you to switch to a frog of a different color.
You can select from 16 different color combinations. 16
differently colored frogs will be displayed, each with a
letter underneath it. The letter under the frog currently
being used will be underlined. Press the letter of the frog
you wish to change to. If you don't wish to change Leaper's
color, press the Escape key.
H - Brings up a help screen giving a brief summary of
the instructions.
J - Switches to joystick control. (Make sure your
joystick is centered before pressing J.)
K - Switches to keyboard control.
S - Displays the ten highest scores.
Ctrl-Esc - Quits the game and exits to DOS.
When playing use the arrow keys or the joystick to move
Leaper. At the start the game is set up to use the arrow
keys. To switch to the joystick, press J while the title
screen is being displayed. The message about "Press J for
joystick control" should change to "Press K for keyboard
control." If it doesn't, then the program is having problems
detecting or reading your joystick.
Pressing P will pause the game until you hit a key.
Pressing the Q key toggles the sounds on and off. A notes
symbol in the upper left corner of the screen indicates that
sounds are on. If you wish to quit before your last frog is
gone, press the Escape key.
You must move the frog into one of the six empty spaces
at the top of the screen. Leaper will die if he is hit by a
vehicle, falls in the water, gets too close to the snake,
moves too close to the alligator's mouth while it is open, or
tries to go off the left or right side of the screen. He
will also be killed if he is moved into a space at the top
that has already been filled. At the bottom of the screen is
a line showing much time Leaper has left to make it across.
A warning beep will sound when the time reaches the red
portion of the line.
When all the spaces at the top have been filled, you
will go on to the next level. Upon completing all the
screens, you will start back at the first screen with a
shorter time limit.
A new Leaper is awarded every 20,000 points. Scoring is
based on how far Leaper has traveled and how quickly he made
it across. You will receive a bonus upon filling all the
spaces. More points are awarded if you didn't lose any frogs
on the current screen.
Occasionally a second frog may appear, sitting on a
log. Extra points are awarded if Leaper hops on this
frog and then makes it safely across.

LEGACY OF THE NECROMANCER
Over 150 years have passed since the Necromancer's downfall
and death in the Great War and times have been relatively
peaceful since then. Your visit to the Adventurers' Museum seems
harmless enough, but the trip to the Palace of the Necromancer
that follows causes you to become aware that a force for great
evil is arising. In the end you must journey to the Black Lands
of Bakarok and destroy the evil force. What you find and do in
the Dark Tower will ultimately determine whether or not the
Necromancer's final legacy is to be a world filled with darkness
and despair.
Legacy of the Necromancer consists of three different text
adventure games. The three games share a common thread, yet each
game is a complete and separate story unto itself, thus allowing
you to play the games in whatever order you choose. Each game
has a vocabulary of over 400 words and understands sentences as
complex as TAKE ALL BUT THE IVORY DAGGER AND THE RUBY OUT OF THE
EXHIBIT CASE.
Part I: The Adventurers' Museum - The Adventurers' Museum
has been robbed by a wily demon, who has hidden his stolen loot
away in a nearby cave, setting up traps and obstacles for the
unwary person attempting to regain the treasures. While passing
by the museum you are asked by the museum's curator to find the
stolen treasures and return them to the museum.
Part II: The Palace of the Necromancer - In search of
treasure you follow a magic map to the Necromancer's former
stronghold in the north, a great palace built into the side of a
mountain. Within the palace you must dodge wandering orcs, learn
to turn lead into gold, and figure out the ways past various
obstacles while searching for treasure and discovering the
palace's secrets.
Part III: The Dark Tower - Your explorations have revealed
that the world is in serious peril from an ancient evil. Vandar
the wizard has given you the dubious task of seeking out and
destroying that evil. Your failure could mean the end of all
that is good in the world. You must wander the Black Lands of
Bakarok and explore the Dark Tower, searching for things to aid
you in the destruction of this evil force while eluding and
outwitting orcs, demons, and other former servants of the
Necromancer.
Part I is shareware and may be purchased for $15.00.
Individually, Parts II and III cost $19.95 each. A combination
package of all three games may be purchased for $45.00.
ARCADE GAMES
Leaper - Can you move Leaper the frog across the highway and
river without getting him killed? Leaper must dodge cars and
trucks, elude snakes, and avoid falling off logs and turtles. 4
color CGA and 256 color VGA versions available. $15.00 for
either version. Be sure to specify which version you want: CGA
or VGA.
Prospector - Search a gold mine for nuggets of gold while
eluding the strange creatures -- snarfs, giant rats, bats, grofs,
and a big-eyed fellow named Igor -- that live in the earth's
depths. Climb up and down ladders, jump on and off elevators,
ride conveyor belts and floating platforms while seeking riches.
150 different screens. A practice game feature is included in
which you can select the screen you wish to start on, the number
of prospectors to start with, and the creatures' speed and
intelligence. Requires EGA or better; uses 16 color EGA
graphics, 640 x 350 pixel resolution. (A 10 screen demo version
of this program can be found on Compuserve.) $25.00.
